Raquel Ramseur, Matt Cook Named Western Carolina 2007-08 Student-Athletes of the Year7/4/2008 - General Release Senior men's golfer Matt Cook (Murphy, N.C./Murphy) and senior sprinter Raquel Ramseur (Charlotte, N.C./Vance) were named Western Carolina University's Student-Athletes of the Year for the 2007-08 athletic season, as announced this week by the WCU Athletic Department. The two will officially be recognized and honored in August during a brief ceremony at the annual student-athlete meeting. Ramseur edged out track & field teammate - and cross country MVP - Kerrie Savery, while Cook was a near unanimous selection as track & field junior Manteo Mitchell was the only other to receive votes. - Read Full Release Western Carolina, Larry Hunter Release 2008-09 Men's Basketball Schedule7/3/2008 - M. Basketball Western Carolina head men's basketball coach Larry Hunter today released his 2008-09 schedule which features a 30-game regular season and prominent road trips to Connecticut, Kent State, Marquette and a three-game appearance in the Great Alaskan Shootout in Anchorage, Alaska. The scheduled includes a 20-game Southern Conference slate with the first-ever league meeting with the Samford Bulldogs. All told, five of WCU's opponents advanced to post-season play a year ago, including five to the NCAA tournament and one to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT).
